We are focused on providing the experiences, resources and education that will optimise your health and function.

The type of service required is determined by your goals, condition and needs but is generally a combination of exercise, manual therapy, nutrition and lifestyle coaching. Programs are based on a foundation of physiotherapy and exercise physiology principles combined with training and teachings of the world-renowned C.H.E.K Institute. Committed to a holistic approach C.H.E.K Practitioners are widely-recognized as the finest and most highly trained exercise therapists, strength & conditioning specialists and nutrition and lifestyle coaches in the world.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a 4 year Undergraduate or 2 year Masters degree that covers a range of assessment and treatment modalities. Physiotherapy may be used to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function when it is affected by pain, injury, disease, disorder, conditions, ageing or environmental factors. This may include anything from sports injury and rehab to improving quality of life throughout the lifespan.

This service includes a detailed assessment and provides hands on treatment that may include soft tissue therapy, massage, joint mobilisations and manipulations, cupping, instrument-assisted soft tissue treatment and sports and kinesiology taping. Also included are specific corrective exercises that are used to address pain and improve functioning in daily life or on the sporting field.

"Activity heals, not so much by what it does to the tissue, but by what it does to the mind. Once safety is assured, the body has less interest in whatever pain messages are coming from the tissue"

~Frank Forencich

Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology is a 4 year university degree that is grounded in the use of exercise to prevent and manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, cancer etc. It specialises in the use of exercise as medicine to help people regain or maintain their function and health.

Exercise Physiologists (EPs) are different in that they possess extensive knowledge, skills and experience in clinical exercise delivery and their ability to provide health modification counselling for people with chronic disease and injury.

Whilst an EP will have a focus on treating and managing disease and illness, there is also an emphasis on disease prevention in which they can plan long-term prevention strategies to access a more optimal state of health. The combination of exercise prescription and behaviour change strategies are used to empower clients to better manage their health and assist them on their journey to optimum functioning.

"There is no pharmacological intervention that holds a greater promise of improving health and promoting independence in the elderly than does exercise."

(Evans & Campbell, 1993)

This service includes a thorough assessment via questionnaires sent to you via this website, postural assessment, range of motion testing, strength testing and needs analysis. After your assessment, I will design a customised exercise program based on both your assessment and submitted questionnaires. Exercise programs generally consist of corrective stretches along with resistance & cardio training, depending on your needs. You will receive an easy-to-follow detailed description of your exercise program, including acute variables such as Rest, Tempo, Intensity, Duration, Repetitions and Sets. This information along with instructional and educational videos will be available for you to view via this website.

Personal Training

Personal training is directed towards those clients that wish to improve their wellbeing, function and fitness. At the Sydney Movement Academy we combine numerous movement practices including but not limited to sports-specific training, pilates, strongman, powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, boxing and circuit training.

The specific training modality is based on the goals of the client but our aim is to keep the body learning and adapting to new and challenging environments. These sessions are run out of natural environments such as parks or beaches when possible, but can also be done at home for convenience.

This service is offered in a similar structure as Exercise Physiology, beginning with a detailed assessment through questionnaires and general movement screening that helps to develop an individualised exercise program. Personal training may be considered more in the domain of specific strength and conditioning for sports, work or hobbies and for those that have completed the initial stages of rehabilitation and are ready to expand their training.

"Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it."

~Plato

Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching

Lifestyle coaching is about addressing the body as a whole looking at the causes of disease and stress. The Sydney Movement Academy uses a combination of Paul Chek's Holistic Lifestyle Coaching and Dave Asprey's Bulletproof Coaching model to empower and guide the client to becoming stronger versions of themselves. You will understand why every meal, bout of exercise and every late night has a hormonal consequence and subsequently an effect on energy, stress and wellbeing. Just because someone is not sick, does not mean he is well. Most chronic diseases take years to develop, but a healthy lifestyle can go a long way toward prevention.

The initial consultations generally involve in-depth questionnaires to assess your lifestyle and readiness to change. This comes with a booklet where you can gather information about food choices, quality, energy levels, stress levels and sleep patterns allowing both the practitioner and yourself to uncover patterns of unhealthy behaviours and address these through proven principles which create a strong foundation of health. We then integrate cutting-edge discoveries from the worlds of neuroscience, performance coaching, nutrition science, nutraceuticals, biohacking, positive psychology, brain fitness, psychoneuroendoimmunology, resilience training and sports psychology.

This is offered both in person and online through Zoom consultations.

Some areas that are commonly addressed include:

  • How your thoughts are creating disease (dis-ease) and how you can change it
  • Reduce negative self-talk and minimise limiting beliefs
  • How stress makes you sick, tired, and overweight whilst prematurely ageing you
  • How unhealthy behaviours prevent real change and prolong unhappiness
  • How to turn obstacles into opportunities
  • How chronic unmanaged stress is impacting your emotion, mental and physical wellbeing and performance
  • How to manage and maintain the balance between work, family, self and commitments
  • How to become more present through mindfulness and cultivating awareness of joy, passion and purpose

The approach is always a reflection of the needs of the individual and is progressed at your pace. Through guidance and the utilisation of the necessary tools, you will gain an understanding of what is right for you and how you can achieve your goals and dreams.

Through accessing our own inner resources we can be efficient and effective with our own health and wellness.

"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease."
